CEA and Jus Mundi announce a partnership to boost global knowledge of arbitration in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions

The Club Español del Arbitraje (CEA) and Jus Mundi are delighted to announce a partnership to give the arbitration community greater access to key decisions on arbitration from tribunals in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions.

Under this partnership, Jus Mundi will provide global access to select Spanish and Portuguese language judicial decisions in relation to arbitration matters for free to anyone in the world with an internet connection.

To further spread this new knowledge globally, CEA Commission members will also create summaries of important domestic decisions in English, Portuguese or Spanish, which will be hosted by Jus Mundi.

Spanish is the official de jure language of 15 jurisdictions and the de facto language of five more, with approximately 493 million native speakers globally. Portuguese is the language of over 10 countries and territories worldwide, with approximately 250 million native speakers worldwide.

These combined linguistic populations underpin a significant proportion of global economic activity, giving rise to a large proportion of commercial and investment arbitration disputes. For this reason, Jus Mundi is delighted to join forces with the CEA in its mission to provide the world with better access to open up important materials in Spanish and Portuguese language arbitration.

Speaking about the partnership, Víctor Bonnin Reynés, Secretary General of the Club Español del Arbitraje, stated:

“This partnership will definitively facilitate access to everybody to important decision in Spanish and Portuguese, so it is key for CEA’s aim to promote arbitration in Spanish and Portuguese languages”

Jean-Rémi de Maistre, CEO of Jus Mundi, said of the partnership:

“This is one of the most important partnerships Jus Mundi has done to date – we are determined to leave no jurisdiction out of our mission to democratize legal knowledge on international law and arbitration globally, for the benefit of the public good”.

“It is essential to overcome language barriers in order to build the global rule of law. For this reason, we are immensely proud to work together with the CEA on this important partnership for such a large proportion of the world’s population”, he added.

As part of the partnership, Jus Mundi will also work with CEA to develop specialized subscriptions and access to Jus Mundi for CEA members, with further details to come.
